    Instructions

Chemmeen theeyal is a traditional South Indian shrimp curry with a rich, roasted coconut and spice-infused gravy. The dish features succulent shrimp cooked in a tangy tamarind sauce, imparting a delightful balance of flavors. Pair with Appam/Rice

    1. 1

      Prepare the roasted coconut paste

Add 240g fresh coconut, 1 tbsp coriander seeds, 50g shredded coconut, and 2 de-stemmed dried red chillies to The Upliance jar. The Upliance will now sauté these ingredients at high heat for 3 minutes until golden brown, stirring automatically. After this, add 40g water and blend to make a fine paste.

    2. 2

      Sauté aromatics and powdered spices

Add 2 tbsp coconut oil to The Upliance jar. Add 0.5 tsp mustard seeds and 10 washed curry leaves. The Upliance will sauté these at high heat for 30 seconds with automatic stirring. Then add 50g cut sambar onions and 1 de-stemmed green chilli. The Upliance will sauté these at medium heat for 3 minutes. Next, add 0.5 tsp turmeric powder, 0.5 tsp kashmiri mirch powder, and 1 tsp coriander powder. The Upliance will sauté them at high heat for 30 seconds with automatic stirring.

    3. 3

Cook tomatoes and simmer the curry base

Add 2 halved tomatoes to The Upliance jar. The Upliance will chop them for 5 seconds. Then, it will sauté the tomatoes at medium heat for 5 minutes until soft. Now add the prepared coconut paste, 200g washed defrosted prawns, 1 chopped drumstick stem, 1 tsp salt, and 0.5 tbsp tamarind paste to the jar. The Upliance will mix the ingredients for 10 seconds. Then, it will cook the curry at medium heat for 17 minutes with automatic stirring until the prawns are tender and the gravy thickens.

    4. 4

      Garnish and serve

Once the curry is cooked, add 2 minced coriander leaves stems to The Upliance jar for garnish. The dish is ready to be served and best paired with Appam or rice.
